Robert Pittman was born in Jackson, Mississippi on 28 December 1953. He started his first job as a disc jockey at age 15. He then attended college at Millsaps College. In 1968, he began working as a program director at WPEZ-FM in Pittsburgh. Three years later he began working in Chicago at WMAQ-FM. In 1975, he began his job working as a program director for WMBC-AM. In the year 1977, he became the producer and host of a weekly music video show for networks owned by NBC. In 1978, he was the program director of “The Movie channel". In 1979, he became head of programing at Warner Amex Satellite Entertainment. In 1981, he then created programing for MTV. He worked there until 1987. After leaving MTV,he worked as the president and chief executive officer for Time-Warner Enterprises.From 1988 to 1991, Robert Pittman worked as the president and chief executive officer for Six Flags Entertainment. Then in 1990, he worked as the chief executive officer for Century 21 Real Estate. He left this position in 1995. Robert Pittman is married to his wife, Sandy and currently invests in Internet start-up ventures.
